Spoiler Alert: Tonight, HBO’s The Leftovers is all new with the penultimate episode of Season 2. Two week’s ago we saw Justin Theroux’s character Kevin Garvey die only to rise again last week after killing his way back from purgatory. Now, Leftovers novel writer Tom Perrotta is opening up about the decision to take Kevin to (almost) Hell and back. Check out the report below for a look at the Perrotta’s comments and the second to last episode of the renewed series.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of The Leftovers, titled “Ten Thirteen,” reads:
“Meg's path to the Guilty Remnant follows an intense personal loss. Meanwhile, Tom hopes to reunite with Meg after a fallout with his mom.”
Last week’s episode was hell of a trip to purgatory, or something like that. Recently, Leftovers novel author and series co-showrunner, Tom Perrotta opened up to Indiewire about the decision to take the show so far into the realm of the supernatural:
“One of the things that happened is that once we assigned Ghost Patti to Kevin, we were already into this realm of, you know, demons or ghosts or some sort of psychosis -- however you want to look at it. And one of the religious experiences we wanted to explore was the shaman idea: a character who could move between the land of the living and the land of the dead. I feel like in some large sense that was the idea that we started with. And it wasn't like we had an exact plan, but you can see in both those cases it was this issue of, you know, the interaction between the dead and the living; what was built into the structure of the season and I think that was where it started.”
