‘Star Wars 7: Force Awakens’ Director JJ Abrams Talks Lightsaber Battles and Original Triology

Star Wars without lightsabers is like December without Christmas. Or worse, like this December without Star Wars. Because, let's not be stupid here, there would be no Star Wars without lightsaber battles. Now that Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens is just two weeks away, J.J. Abrams is opening up about iconic weapon of the Jedi and Sith and the role they play in the new film. Abrams recently spoke up about his inspiration for the fights telling Empire Magazine about how they will be more like the original trilogy.

In the recent Star Wars themed issue of Empire Magazine, The Force Awakens’ director J.J. Abrams opened up about lightsaber battles in Episode 7 and how they were inspired by the original trilogy (via ScreenRant):

“When you look at Star Wars and Empire, they are very different lightsaber battles, but for me they felt more powerful because they were not quite as slick. I was hoping to go for something much more primitive, aggressive and rougher, a throwback to the kind of heart-stopping lightsaber fights I remembered being so enthralled by as a kid.”

However, Abrams didn’t really have anything too bad to say about the lightsaber battles in saying that they were,”increasingly spectacular and stylised, almost like dance choreography”.

What is your favorite lightsaber battle in the franchise? What side are you on, Jedi or Sith? Who is your favorite character in the Star Wars universe. Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page. Or you can tweet us your pick at @Classicalite.
