Rumors have been confirmed that over the last few days, a Fox News contributor has received numerous rape and death threats from fans angered over her negative Star Wars comments.
You know, I expect people who make fun of Islam, Christians, or homosexuals to receive various and sundry negative reactions, including death threats. What I didn't expect is that Fox News contributor Katherine Timpf would receive deah and rape threats over making fun of Star Wars on a political satire show running at 3 am.
This is my favorite of the Force-induced madness clearly afflicting some Star Wars fans.
Seriously, what is wrong with some people? Yes, I get that someone poked fun at something near and dear to you, but that's no reason to threaten someone's life and well-being.
Timpf's response was no doubt just as inflammatory to the individuals concerned with her view of Star Wars.
"'I have never had any interest in watching space nerds poke each other with their little space nerd sticks, and I'm not going to start now. You people are crazy. You Star Wars people are crazy. Yesterday I tweeted something, and all I said was that I wasn't familiar with Star Wars because I've been too busy liking cool things and being attractive - people threatened my life.'"
Albeit, I do have to give her credit on how she's handled the various threats. Mostly by poking fun at either the threats or the whole situation. "If I die bc I made a Star Wars joke that would be the funniest way to go". I agree, while sad, it would be one of the more amusing deaths of the century. I think the Darwin Awards would have to consider giving her a medal or trophy.
In any case, we all know the majority of fans aren't crazed fanboys/fangirls. For those that are, grow up. Star Wars may be one of the best stories of the last century, but it doesn't give anyone the right to issue death threats.
