Ever since Donald Trump had his 12 minutes, 5 seconds of airtime on NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL), some other candidates have been in an uproar, citing a FCC rule giving them the right to equal airtime. Among those requesting their share of attention are Senators Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz, in addition to Ohio's governor, John Kasich.
"According to letters sent by the [candidates'] campaigns to NBC and affiliate station managers, FCC regulations call for equal opportunities granted to qualified candidates for public office. The law grants the candidates equal time on NBC, and they did not specifically ask to be on Saturday Night Live."
While Graham, Cruz and Kasich seem more than willing to tell a joke or two on SNL, Ben Carson has declined the opportunity. "The Carson campaign confirmed to MSNBC that they will not be seeking NBC airtime, and the candidate himself has said that hosting SNL is not something he'd be willing to do."
Carson's continued decision to remain off the SNL stage may have something to do with him being right on Trump's tail with a healthy 23% of voters in his corner.
What do you think? Is this rule bringing out a childish side of our presidential candidates no one really wants to see? Use the comments below to express your opinion.
