Republican Debate: Ted Cruz Slams Moderators over Cage-Match Questions.

During Wednesday night's Republican Debate, candidate Ted Cruz slammed the CNBC moderators over unfair questions that turned the debate more of a cage-match than debate.

But were the questions really inappropriate for the debate? I don't think so. Here's why.

First, these debates are becoming less and less about who's going to be the best logical choice for leading a nation, but rather who's the best looking, richest, or most entertaining. Or at least, makes the fewest ridiculous remarks. It's not supposed to be a cage match of words, but it certainly seems the candidates are bringing it that way (ahem, Trump).

"How about talking about the substantive issues people care about?" Cruz inquired of the moderators. Oh, you mean like "How am I going to get my college education paid for?" or perhaps, "Where's my tax break?" How about "When are we going to pull our troops out of the pointless fighting in the Middle East?" Of course, being the politicians that they are, getting a straight answer out them will be next to impossible. Or at least, an honest straight answer.

Another reason the questions aren't inappropriate is because the candidates will have to deal with all manner of ridiculous inquiries and accusations should they become president. They'll have to deal with a petty, fickle public who are more interested in who's going to win the next sports game than whether or not China is expanding into the South China Sea. If you can't respond appropriately to inciteful questions (pun intended), how can you handle the vagaries of American culture?

"He also suggested that the Democratic candidates receive softball questions and compared the candidates to 'the Bolsheviks versus the Mensheviks.'"

Good job, Cruz. Let's bring up communism and the Cold War Era, something people in their 20's and 30's will barely have encountered other than in a few movies or childhood memories.

I'm politically conservative, but I'm not particularly fond of any of the candidates the GOP are shoving in my face this year. Right now, I'm looking less at the issues the candidate stand for and more towards whether or not they are more likely to pull in votes. A president isn't all powerful, but a party with a president can get more done than without one.

So what did you think of Wednesday's debate? Do you think the questions were unfair? Did any of the candidates actually acquit themselves with aplomb?
