The St. Louis Rams are currently sitting at 4-3 on the season and are looking like a potential playoff team. What five reasons can be given to support the statement that the Rams will make the NFL Playoffs in the 2015 season?
1. Todd Gurley's Superstar Presence at the Running Back Position
Perhaps the most obvious thing that the Rams have going for them this year is having Todd Gurley at the running back position. He is one of the best in the NFL and there is no question that he is going to continue putting up superstar numbers throughout the remainder of the season. There is good reason to believe that he is the best running back in the NFL and he isn't going to slow down moving forward.
2. A Top-Notch Defense
St. Louis has put together an impressive defense as well and that has shown against some of the league's top offenses. Just looking back at their game against the Green Bay Packers a few weeks back, they put pressure on Aaron Rodgers and forced a couple key mistakes. They weren't able to pull out the victory, but their defense is continuing to improve and get more dangerous as the season progresses.
3. Nick Foles Is a Very Sold Game Managing QB
When the Rams acquired Nick Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason, they knew they weren't getting a superstar. What they were targeting by acquiring him is bringing in a game manager that can take care of the football and make some plays here and there. He has been able to do just that and things are continuing to get easier for him with the emergence of Gurley.
4. Having Jeff Fisher Leading the Way
Jeff Fisher is one of the best head coaches in the recent history of the NFL and having him lead the way is huge for the Rams. He is a very smart coach on both sides of the football and knows how to motivate his team and put them in positions to succeed. St. Louis likely wouldn't be in this position if Fisher wasn't their head coach and he will continue making a huge difference.
5. Playmakers on Both Sides of the Football
A team cannot substitue anything for having playmakers and that is exactly what the Rams have. Having the type of playmaking on both sides of the football that St. Louis has is exactly the mixture that wins football games. St. Louis will continue putting up big plays offensively and coming away with big plays on special teams and defensively as well.
Overview
St. Louis is going to be very entertaining to watch over the next few weeks. Now that Gurley is beginning to show off the type of talent that he has, opposing defense are going to begin changing their game plans a bit. Whether or not that will slow him down is another question.
Foles and the rest of the offense is more than capable of making enough plays to keep the opposing defenses honest, which will continue allowing Gurley to put up massive production.
Fisher is confident in his teams playoff chances and rightfully so. The sky is the limit for this Rams' football team and the fan base should get prepared for a playoff run. They certainly have the talent to get into the playoffs and at this point in time are beginning to play a brand of football that would get them into the postseason.
