With the season finale of 'Doctor Who' coming up shortly, are wondering "what's next?" and rumors have finally been confirmed that Peter Capaldi will be returning as the Doctor in Season 10.
In a recent interview with Variety, Steven Moffat confirmed that the Scottish actor, Peter Capaldi, "is going nowhere." I'm certainly pleased with the news. While I forever and always will be a fan of David Tenant's Doctor, Capaldi has certainly done well as Matt Smith's replacement in Doctor Who season nine.
It's also been confirmed that Jenna Coleman (who plays the Doctor's companion, Clara) will be leaving the show. We don't know yet who the next companion will be. I'm assuming it will be an attractive female (or male, eh, Captain Jack?), but who that is exactly hasn't been determined.
The show will go on, as the saying goes, and according to Moffat, Doctor Who could be around for quite some time. "It is definitely going to last five more years, I've seen the business plan. It's not going anywhere. And I think we can go past that. It's television's own legend. It will just keep going." Which is great news for enthusiasts like most of my friends. I've never seen so many geeky girls (and a couple guys) swooning over a character, not the actors.
There is a certain magic to the show. It isn't defined by just the actors. If one Doctor gets tired of playing the role, another is waiting in the wings to replace him. Each have had their own quirks and personalities, which is just another thing the various Doctor Who fandoms love. Personally, I'm quite fond of episodes where previous Doctor's are involved.
As Steven Moffat says, "Most shows have a built-in mortality. But here is a show that sheds us all like scales; a show that can make you feel everything except indispensable. It will carry on forever, because you can replace every part of it." I suspect that's part of the show's magic. It can go on. And on. And on.
So what do you think about the latest Doctor? Who's your favorite?
