The decades old feud between Trekkies and Star Wars burned bright when William Shatner, the (in)famous Captain Kirk of Star Trek, roasted Star Wars on his Twitter Feed.
Shatner has been trolling Star Wars fans ever since the last of the Star Wars trailers aired during Monday Night Football. And the 84-year-old actor has been doing a better job than most trolls.
With comments on Twitter like "And everyone knows SWs is a derivative of @StarTrek" or ""Those that can; do Star Trek. Those that can't; do SWs" Shatner has been teasing SW fans quite a bit.
I've been a die-hard Trekkie ever since I saw my first VHS episode of Star Trek: The Original Series over a decade ago. And I'm loving every minute of this good-natured diatribe.
I've also been a hard-core Star Wars fan for just slightly less time, which makes the comments even funnier to me.
He's also been busy comparing Star Wars with Battlestar Galactica and Space: 1999. I can't help but laugh at the similarities. Albeit, I think SW did a much better job with the costumes.
In my opinion, the best come back I've seen so far is by writer Andrew Husband: "Why have you forsaken us, Captain Kirk? What did we ever do to wrong you and incur your hashtagged wrath? Is it because Chris Pine was cast in the Star Trek reboot instead of you? Yes, he's pretty to look at, but you'll always be our Captain Kirk."
Yes, Shatner will always be Captain Kirk in my mind. Not the crazy guy in The Twilight Zone who killed a gremlin trying to take down his plane.
