The term “synthetic children” might sound like something you would expect to hear about in a science fiction film Star Trek or in a comic book movie. However, that is not where you can here Zoe Saldana opening up about the subject. The Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy star recently chimed on the controversy surrounding Dolce & Gabbana’s recent comments on gay adoptions and IVF, and the boycott surrounding them.
Recently fashion duo Dolce and Gabbana spoke to Panorama magazine about their views on gay adoptions and IVF with Dolce stating (via E! News):
"You are born to be a mother and a father. Or at least that's how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalog."
This lead to a boycott against the company. However, Zoe Saldana will not be joining in the boycott as she told E! News at the 2015 GLAAD Media Awards:
"That would be the stupidest thing if it affected my fashion choice. People are allowed to their own opinion, however, I wouldn't have chosen to be so public about something that's such a personal thing. Obviously it caused some sensitivity, but then again if you continue to follow the news, you see they all kinda hugged it out, so why are we making a big deal about it?
“I'm certainly not going to stop wearing Dolce, and I'm certainly not going to be refuting when they are adopting synthetic children, however they wanted to say it… I do think things are lost in translation. My husband [Marco Perego] is from Italy and if I judged him based on the words that he misuses in our English language he wouldn't be here today. It's like look people, have a drink, relax, it's okay."
What do you think of Zoe’s comments? Are you going to be boycotting Dolce & Gabbana? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
