Week 7 of the NFL and fantasy football seasons brings some big decisions for many owners and DFS players alike, especially at the quarterback position as guys like Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning and Andy Dalton are all on byes, and Ben Roethlisberger and Tony Romo remain sidelined due to injury. When looking for that under-the-radar QB who can fill the starting line-up gap, some may look to the Cleveland Browns' Josh McCown. However, you need to heed this advice and steer clear!
While it's true that McCown has been stellar fantasy-wise with over 1,400 yards and eight touchdowns through the air, he's not going to have an easy time going against the St. Louis Rams. In fact, he's going to have his worst game of the year so far.
Not only has this Rams defense forced nine turnovers in five games (five INTs and four FRs), but they've gotten after the quarterback with the best defensive line in the league to the tune of 19 sacks -- nearly four per game.
The Browns' offensive line has already let McCown be sacked 17 times (Johnny Manziel was also sacked five times while McCown had a concussion), and now they face the likes of Chris Long, Robert Quinn, Michael Brockers and perhaps the best defensive tackle in the league, Aaron Donald. The Rams have the best defensive line, and McCown is going to end up paying the price in a big way.
Expect the Browns' incumbent starter to throw for a measly 185 yards, one TD and two interceptions at best, as he'll be under duress all day and be sacked six times.
For a few options who present better chances for success on Sunday, look toward Ryan Tannehill against the Houston Texans, Ryan Fitzpatrick against the New England Patriots or, in a real pinch, Landry Jones against the Kansas City Chiefs. KC is terrible at covering wideouts, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have two gamebreakers in Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant.
