‘Doctor Who’: Jenna Coleman Quits, Ciara Dies, ‘GoT’ Maisie Williams Companion & Female Dr?

This weekend the hit BBC series Doctor Who is all new. This time around, the Doctor meets up with Game of Thrones Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams. This comes shortly after it was revealed that Jenna Coleman quitting her gig as The Doctor’s companion, Ciara. There has even been talk of Ciara possibly dying in this week’s episode, titled “The Girl Who Died.” Could Maisie Williams be replacing Coleman as the new companion or is there a better “man” for the job. Recently, writer Mark Gatiss spoke about the possibility of having a male companion and even a female Doctor. Check out the report below for a update on all the latest rumors.

The official plot synopsis for this weekend’s all new episode of Doctor Who, titled “The Girl Who Died,” reads:

“The Doctor and Ciara are captured by Vikings and must protect their village from space warriors called the Mire.”

Recently it was confirmed that Ciara actress Jenna Coleman would not be returning as the Doctor’s companion next season/series. Now, Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss has opened up about the possibility of a male companion replacing Ciara, telling reporters at the Oct 2015 Attitude Awards (via Digital Spy):

"I've always been a fan of the boy/girl partnership from way back when. It would be very interesting if the Doctor had a male companion... but then it would be a very male show."

Gatiss also went on to discuss the idea of The Doctor become a woman, adding:

"I think the dynamic then would be really interesting. It would be great...Doctor Who is always driven on change. All you need is a fantastic actor for the part - but I hope Capaldi stays for a very long time because he's great...I think he's grown into it, which is what always happens. I love the way people have responded to this series, and I love the two-parters as well."
