Tonight, Arrow is all new with the premiere episode of Season 4. This year the show promises to a lighter tone and greener arrows. Recently, show bosses Wendy Mericle and Andrew Kreisberg opened up about what we can expect from Oliver Queen (TMNT 2’s Stephen Amell) this season. Check out the report below for a look at tonight’s all new episode.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Arrow, titled “Green Arrow” reads:
“Season 4 begins with assassins, led by the evil Damien Darhk, attacking Star City. Oliver quickly returns from a blissful getaway with Felicity to defend the city, but Diggle makes it clear that he doesn't want Oliver on the team.”
As the title of tonight's episode suggest, we will finally see Oliver take up the mantle of The Green Arrow. Executive producer Wendy Mericle recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the newer, greener Arrow:
"It felt right for the natural evolution of Oliver's character to become what we know in the comics. We're doing a slight change in the show this year in terms of what kind of superhero he's going to be and close the chapter on the whole soldier coming back from war, PTSD, darkness story we were telling. We'll still have darkness but it's going to be explored in different ways. Oliver himself is going to be in a happier place so it seemed like the perfect time."
However, everything won’t be so sunny for Team Arrow. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, where he previewed some of the challenges that Oliver will face in the new season:
"When Oliver left Starling City it was left to Dig and Laurel to be Team Arrow without the Arrow. You'll see Dig take on a leadership role on Team Arrow in Oliver's absence but Damien Darhk [Neil McDonough] is going to prove to be much more than he can handle on his own, and that's when Oliver is brought back into it. Before, Dig worked for Oliver, and now they are much more equals and they're going to struggle to find their place in this new environment. One of the early episodes, Dig has lost his faith in Oliver so they don't quite have each other's backs and that leads to a mishap. They have to learn to work together again, much more as equals."
