Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams is dealing with an ankle injury and has been slowly recovering from it since early on against the Chiefs.
Adams was expected to come through with huge numbers in his new role helping replace Jordy Nelson, although that hasn't happened yet. Nelson went down with a torn ACL during preseason action, which made many believe that the Packers would take a major hit starting the season. Aaron Rodgers has weathered the storm perfectly and has been playing impressive football to say the least.
Throughout the action that Adams has been able to participate in this season, he has caught just nine passes for 92 yards and no touchdown. It certainly hasn't been the major breakout season that the Packers were hoping to see from him, but getting back 100 percent from this ankle injury would be a huge step in the right direction for the young receiver.
At just 22 years old, there is no question that Adams has the potential to become something special in the future for the Packers. He is an extremely physical receiver and he has impressive athleticism and hands to go along with that physicality.
Rodgers is very comfortable with Adams already and they will pick up their chemistry when he gets back onto the field.
Ankle injuries are never easy for a player to bounce back from, especially wide receivers who are forced to make quick cuts on it. Adams is wise to be recovering slowly and focusing on getting back to 100 percent before he gets back out on the field.
Adams talked about the recovery process and how difficult it is to recover from it and take things slow.
"I'm trying to be smart more than anything; I don't want keep messing up," Adams said. "It's a long season."
Sitting out of games this early in the year in his second season hasn't been easy for Adams at all. He wants to be out on the field for his team and helping them compete for another run at the Super Bowl. After last season and breaking out late in the year, expect to see Adams continue attacking his rehab and doing everything he can to get back on the field sooner rather than later.
Expect to see Adams back in the starting lineup in the next couple of weeks, but taking things slow is the right strategy for him and the Packers.
