Green Bay Packers' star QB Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time and improved his MVP chances with an impressive Week 4 performance.
It was a big game for the Packers, as the San Francisco 49ers have been an Achilles heel for them over the past few seasons. Rodgers knew that the Packers needed to shake the monkey off of their backs and he was able to put together an impressive game to help his team do just that.
Rodgers ended up completing 22 of his 32 pass attempts for a total of 224 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He once again went an entire game without throwing an interception and has yet to throw one so far this year. Green Bay is sitting at 4-0 after their first four games and certainly appear to be one of the top teams in the entire NFL.
Heading into San Francisco and coming away with a victory is never an easy task, but the Packers were able to make things look easy with a 17-3 victory. Obviously the defense did an amazing job, but Rodgers showed impressive leadership and there is no question that he has taken his game to a new level this year after Jordy Nelson went down with a torn ACL.
Following the Nelson injury, Green Bay immediately took a hit from the media and many didn't expect them to stay a Super Bowl contender. Rodgers has made sure that the media be proven wrong and the brand of football that he has been playing could win him his second MVP award in as many seasons.
At 31 years old, Rodgers still has a long career left ahead of him. He is in his prime and has a good chance to win another ring in the next couple of seasons. Green Bay has built their franchise completely around his skill-set and it is showing why they decided to do that through the first four weeks this year.
After coming through with massive numbers last season, Rodgers was immediately viewed as a top MVP candidate this year during the offseason.
There aren't many quarterbacks in the history of the game that have played the type of football that Rodgers has shown over the last couple of seasons. He has been as close to perfect as any quarterback has been in this generation of quarterbacks. Green Bay was blessed to move from Brett Favre to Rodgers and they aren't going to need a new quarterback for a long time.
Expect to see Rodgers continue sticking towards the top of the NFL MVP race throughout the remainder of the season. Green Bay depends on him and Rodgers has taken a big step forward this year from last. He may throw an interception or two, but there is no denying the fact that he is as close to perfect as any quarterback in the league.
