Several times this year, Jessica Simpson has seemingly showed up for one televised event or another a little too drunk to talk, but her mostly incoherent appearance on the Home Shopping Network reportedly has her husband freaking out. According to the latest gossip news updates, Eric Johnson is demanding his wife get rehab for her substance abuse issues or risk losing custody of their kids forever. While everyone in Simpson's family is said to be scared to death, there seems to be hope that Johnson's ultimatum will make a difference, given that there is nothing his wife won't do for her children.
Not even the most clever of spin doctors would be able to talk away Jessica Simpson's frightful appearance on the HSN network the other night as anything other than a disaster.
One source claiming to be close to the situation in the latest October 5, issue of Star magazine explains that Jessica's embarrassing behavior was nothing new to those closest to her:
"Jess has been photographed stumbling out of clubs and restaurants a number of times over the years.
"The Jessica that the public is seeing during these appearances is the Jessica her family and closest friends see every day.
"It's very scary for them...At this point they are hoping that the embarrassing buzz around when she slurs and acts bizarre in public will finally push her to realize she needs help."
The insider that Radar Online spoke to insists that Eric Johnson, for one, has had enough of watching his wife slip into addiction and is determined to do something about it.
Accord to their informant, the former footballer is forcing his Jessica to choose between her children or her bad habits:
"Things reached a climax in early May, when Eric told Jess he has had enough and issued his ultimatum.
"He is worried sick that Jess' conduct is going to start affecting their two children and that their oldest is starting to realize there's something wrong with mommy."
As bad as Jessica is making things for herself, Nick Lachey's wife, Vanessa Lachey supposedly wishes the Dukes of Hazzard sex-symbol will leave her husband out of it.
A friend of Vanessa's told the Radar that Lackey's new wife didn't take kindly to Simpson referring to Nick as her "biggest money mistake" (via InTouchWeekly):
"Vanessa's sick of the public digs. She wants to have it out with Jessica and remind her she'd be nothing if it wasn't for Nick."
