Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman suffered an injury yesterday and has been diagnosed with a broken rib that will keep him out a couple weeks.
Adam Schefter released the report that Coleman will miss a couple of weeks on Twitter. It is a tough blow for the Falcons' offense for those two weeks, but it is much better news than it could have been. Coleman has already shown the potential to be a major playmaker for the Falcons and they are very high on his potential for the future.
Through the first two games of his NFL career, Coleman has carried the football 29 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. He scored his first career touchdown yesterday in the narrow win over the Giants.
Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how the Falcons' ground game does without him. Devonta Freeman will step into the starting role, which should help replace him very nicely. Freeman is a very talented running back himself and is more than capable of breaking big plays each and every time he touches the football.
At just 22 years old, the future is incredibly bright for Coleman moving forward with the Falcons. He has the body to be a workhorse type of running back if Atlanta decides they want to use him that way, although Matt Ryan is without question the face of the franchise and the top playmaker for the offense. Having Julio Jones is another reason why the Falcons will remain primarily a passing offense.
Hopefully Coleman is able to get back on the field in Week 5 for the Falcons against the Redskins and pick up where he left off. The sky is the limit for Coleman and he is going to be a big part of deciding whether or not the Falcons get into the playoffs this season.
Expect to see him bounce back from this injury fairly quickly and get back on the field for the Falcons. He is one of the top playmaking rookies in the NFL and Coleman will be given his starting job back immediately when he's ready to return.
