Notre Dame will welcome the Georgia Tech this afternoon in a tough ranked matchup. What is a reasonable final score prediction for this Week 3 game?
This is a game that will have quite a few fans glued to their TV's after seeing Notre Dame survive a scare last week against Virginia. Notre Dame's starting quarterback, Malik Zaire, went down with a broken ankle and will miss the remainder of the season. DeShone Kizer is now being asked to step into the starting role and his first game as the starter being against Georgia Tech is tough for him.
Coming into this afternoon's game, Notre Dame hosts the No. 9 ranking in the nation, while Georgia Tech is the No. 14 ranked team in the country.
Both of these teams are capable of making runs at the second college football playoff and could do some damage against any team they face. Today is simply the first big step among many in making that kind of a run towards the postseason.
Georgia Tech will have to head into South Bend and establish their ground game immediately. The Irish defense is solid, but the Yellow Jackets are more than capable of being the aggressor on the ground. If they can get their rushing attack started quickly, there is a good chance that they can wear the Notre Dame defense down and take some shots down the field through the air.
Notre Dame, on the other hand, will be forced to play a much more balanced game with Kizer under center. He showed that he has a capable arm last week after coming in for Zaire, but he is young and liable to make a mistake if put under pressure. The Irish are going to allow him to show off his arm, but having a balanced offense and keeping the defense guessing is the way that they need to go.
Needless to say, this is a huge game for both teams this year and they are going to leave everything they have out on the field. Notre Dame is still the better team on paper even without Zaire, but the margin is very narrow and they can't afford errors. Don't be surprised if this game comes down to the last drive of the game.
All of that being said, it is impossible to pick against the Irish at home this afternoon. Kizer may not be quite the playmaker that Zaire is, but he is still more than capable of putting up big plays and bringing home another win for the Irish.
