Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray is facing his former team in Week 2 and will put up a dominant performance against the Dallas Cowboys.
These two teams have a very nasty rivalry with each other and there was quite a bit of hatred sent Murray's way after he chose to leave Dallas. The Cowboys were one of the top teams in the NFL last season and were nearly able to pull out a win at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers to advance to the NFC Championship game. That didn't end up happening, but many expected Murray to return to Dallas and keep the strong play going.
Obviously that didn't end up happening and Murray chose to sign with a division rival. He is facing his former team for the first time in Week 2 NFL action on Sunday afternoon. Dominating the Cowboys' defense is exactly the type of signal that Murray wants to send in his return and he is more than capable of doing so.
Last year with the Cowboys, Murray ended up carrying the football 392 times for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns. It was an impressive season to say the least and his Week 1 performance for the Eagles this season against Atlanta was a major letdown. He ended up carrying the football eight times for just nine yards, although he was able to get into the end zone both on the ground and through the air.
If the Eagles want to come away with a big win over their division rival and even their record at 1-1, Chip Kelly is going to have to trust his running back. Murray was a star last season and it wasn't a fluke. He is an excellent running back and is going to turn his season around in a big way in Week 2.
At 27 years old, Murray is in the prime of his career and has even more motivation this week to come through with a big performance. He has the opportunity to prove to his new team that he is 100 percent in with what they are doing by coming up with a huge performance and being a key part in knocking off his former team.
There is no question that Kelly is going to give his star running back plenty of carried throughout the game.
Murray is going to show exactly why Kelly was willing to trade star running back LeSean McCoy and bring him on board. His first game was not exactly what many were hoping for, but Dallas is in for a nightmare game when it comes to trying to stop the Eagles' running game and their former star.
Expect to see Murray come into Week 2 and dominate his former team. He is going to look like a much different player than he did against Atlanta on Monday night and the Cowboys aren't going to like the results. This is the chance that every player waits for and Murray will take full advantage of the opportunity to play his former teammates.
