The LSU Tigers will welcome the Auburn Tigers this afternoon in a tough SEC matchup. What is a reasonable final score prediction for this Week 3 game?
Obviously this game is one of the best of the weekend in college football and could go either way. LSU comes in as the No. 13 ranked team in the country with Les Miles leading the way, while Gus Malzahn and his team come in with the No. 18 rank in the nation. Both of these teams are capable of making a run at the college football playoff at the end of the season if they play up to their full potential.
Auburn has quite a few concerns surrounding them heading into this game and are looking to prove that last week was a fluke. They nearly lost to Jacksonville State last week before pulling off an overtime win. It was a bad game for quarterback Jeremy Johnson, but the Tigers are holding onto the fact that they faced adversity and still pulled out the win.
LSU, on the other hand, is coming off of an impressive 21-19 victory over a very tough Mississippi State football team. Miles has to be happy about his teams play last week and there is no question that LSU is favored to pull off a big and fairly easy win at home against a struggling Auburn team.
That being said, SEC rivalry games usually bring out the best in teams and Auburn does have a lot of talent on their roster.
Malzahn is one of the best coaches in college football, which gives Auburn fans plenty of reason to believe that their team can walk into Death Valley and come out victorious. It is very difficult to do in the hostile atmosphere that Auburn will face, but LSU has some question marks as well. Auburn's defense will have to step up in a big way if they want to have any chance at coming away with a victory.
Miles and LSU have one of the best running backs in the nation in Leonard Fournette and are going to rely on him to come through with another big game. As usual, LSU also has a very tough defense that will do everything they can to force mistakes from Johnson. If they can put pressure on Johnson, there is a good chance that Auburn will turn the football over a time or two throughout the game.
It is hard to predict this game, but there is no question that LSU has more talent on paper heading into this afternoon.
Expect to see LSU pull out a hard fought victory, but also expect to see Auburn look much improved from how poorly they played last week. Malzahn and Miles are going to have a very entertaining coaching chess match to fight, but Miles should come out on top if his team plays to their full potential.
