Maisie Williams is cementing her place as geek royalty. Not only is playing the much beloved Arya Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, but she is also getting ready to take a trip through space and time with the Time Lord himself, Doctor Who. Williams is guest starring on in the ninth season of the hit BBC series. Now, show boss, Steven Moffat, is opening up about Maisie’s role on the show.
Recently, Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Steven Moffat opened up about Maisie William’s role in Season 9, telling reporters at the 2015 Television Critics Association fall previews (via TV Guide):
"She is not playing a returning character; she's a brand new character. She's not someone from the Doctor's past... unless I'm lying."
However, just because she is not a returning character doesn’t mean that she won’t be returning as Moffat adds:
“It's a significant role. We're not throwing her away/ We're not getting the star value and doing nothing with it. It's a great part and she's terrific in it. But I would say it will develop in unexpected ways."
Moffat went on to further boast about the brainchild of writer/producer Brian Minchin:
"I think once you see what she's up to in the show you'll appreciate what a clever idea of Brian Minchin's that was.”
