Have you ever want to see cancer patients sing and dance or the whole cancer ward do a choreographed number? It could happen as apparently, Bollywood has its heart set on doing a remake of The Fault in Our Stars. (Cue terminally ill patient's song and dance moment.) The American version of the film deals with two cancer patients who fall in love while attending a support group meeting. It is based of the John Green bestseller by the same name. As of now, Deepika Padukone is set to take on the role of Shailene Woodley essayed in the American version.
From The Times of India, we get a sense of where the filmmakers will be going with the remake:
"While the story will remain of two youngsters who are terminally-ill patients of cancer, who fall in love, the USP of the Hindi adaptation will be the humour with which this heavy subject will be dealt with. We have exclusively learnt that the gorgeous Deepika Padukone has given her consent to be a part of the film that is being directed by one of her closest friends, Homi Adajania, and produced by Dinesh Vijan. Deepika will finish promoting Sanjay Leela Bhansali's dream project Bajirao Mastani this year end and then get on to shooting The Fault In Our Stars adaptation that will release sometime next year."
The American version of the film grossed $307 million against a $12 million budget. It was a pleasant box office surprise and helped launch the career of its star Shailene Woodley in the U.S.
The rumor mill is still churning about who Deepika Padukone's co-star will be, though it is looking more and more like it will be ABCD star, Varun Dhawan.
What do you think about Bollywood doing their own version of the hit film? Will it come off as tacky or do think they can bring a fresh and different aspect to it? What about the casting? Yes or no on Deepika Padukone. We'd love to hear from you.
