Actress Deepika Padukone has battled depression and been very vocal and upfront about it. Part of her recovery and inner peace has come from the filming of the surprise hit Piku. As a memento to remember the times she had and how special Piku will always be to her, Deepika has requested the earrings her character wore as a keepsake of the happy shoot.
Deepika, known as Dippy to friends, has finally found a measure of happiness in her life. Through it all, she has not ran and hide or made any excuses for her illness. Deepika has recovered and re-found herself, in spite of recently admitting in a recent television interview that ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor still holds a special place in her heart. Soojit Sircar's film, while not the whole reason, has done its small part to aid in the beautiful Bollywood actress' recovery.
This, via the website Hindustantimes:
" 'Piku has been an extremely special film for me so I wanted to keep something that will remind me of the film even years later,' Deepika said in a statement.
Deepika is seen in the role of a selfless daughter, who spends more time listening to constipation tales of her father (played by Amitabh Bachchan) than on her professional or marital pursuits."
It was director Soojit Sircar's participation that ultimately made up Deepika's mind about doing the film, not to forget, of course, the participation of venerable Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, who portrayed her father in the film.
"This film gave me a chance to know him closely. It's always a pleasure working with him but when I did Arakshan, I was still quite new to the industry. I too have matured a lot as an actress in the last few years. So, working with Bachchan sir was a new experience this time. There is so such to learn from him," said in a different article on Hindustan Times.
As for director Sircar, it was his fresh and somewhat quirky approach to storytelling and characters that appealed most to Deepika. " He has this very strong quality of experimenting with the simplest of ideas but in a very interesting way. Piku is a very simple story but has been told in a very interesting style," said the source.
