It seems that producers of Barbara Walter's long running talk show, The View, have had second thoughts about letting Sherri Shepherd go. According to the latest gossip news updates, the powers that be at ABC News have decided to give the 48-year-old comedienne her job back after supposedly firing her alongside Jenny McCarthy back in 2014. Word has it that the TV show runners also wanted to add former co-host Joy Behar to the cast, but Whoopi Goldberg's overbearing presence was a deal breaker. Apparently, host of HBO's Last Week Tonight, John Oliver, also has a problem with Whoopi -- recently taking a swing at the Hollywood icon in a segment from his show entitled, 'Whoopi Goldberg Defends Ten Surprising Things.'
It would seem that after less than a year away from the series, that producers could be considering bringing Sherri Shepherd back to The View, to breathe a little extra life into the new studio.
An inside production source told The Daily Mail, that after bringing Sherri in to guest host while Whoopi was away last season, everyone realized how badly they needed her to return on a more permanent basis:
"Everyone was blown away by how Sherri brought the energy of a live broadcast to the taped show.
"She had been so missed by the producers that many of them cried when she walked in the building."
According to the informant, Joy Behar was also in talks to come back to the show, but she would only really consider taking the job if Whoopi was going to be going away on a more permanent basis:
"Joy has guest co-hosted at least 20 times since January, but feels the backstage environment of the show has changed for the worse since when she left in 2013.
"Whoopi really runs the show now and Joy doesn't like how Whoopi is a mean dictator behind the scenes."
From the looks of his latest 'Whoopi Goldberg Defends Ten Surprising Things' segment, HBO's John Oliver also seems to have taken an issue or two with how Whoopi's doing her job on The View.
It what amounts to a little more than a minute of footage, Oliver lampoons Goldberg's opinion regarding everything from Roman Polanski's rape charges to the US's use of torture in the Iraq war (via The Daily Beast):
"There are other countries that have done it, and it's reaped quite the benefits [sic] for them."
Perhaps, Joy Behar will be soon be joining the cast of The View faster than anyone would have thought.
