Salman Khan's answer to the upcoming theatrical showdown next year between his film Sultan and Shah Rukh Khan's Raees? Build more theaters. At least, that is what he hopes will happen. He hopes it will motivate theater chains to increase film exhibition space in India. In this day and age, is that feasible? In the U.S. certainly, theater chains are in dire need.
Says Salman, courtesy of NDTV, "We feel that if both these films come on Eid next year, there is enough time to build enough theatres to accommodate both of them. This will only make the industry grow. For country like ours, we need at least 20,000 to 25,000 theatres".
Shah Rukh is a bit more philosophical about the perceived feud. "There are 365 days in a year which amounts to 54 Fridays. And there are bound to be clashes. The business will get divided, but Salman and I are such good friends that we have decided on doing everything together, including releasing movies together."
Interestingly, Salman is a little more subdued about the supposed showdown. Of course, that has more to do with his track record than anything else. Each time his films have been head-to-head with Shah Rukh's films, Salman has lost. From Pinkvilla comes this from Salman, "I have released two films with Shah Rukh — Jaaneman opposite Don and Saawariya against Om Shaanti Om and both didn't do well. In fact, with both the films his track record is 100 percent. So he has got nothing to worry about. If there is anyone who needs to worry then it is me."
What do you think? Who will win this round? Will it be Shah Rukh and more of the same? Will Salman finally score a hit or will Shah Rukh go for the clean sweep? Who do you think is the better actor between the two? Can both Sultan and Raees both do good business at the box office?
