The entire Indian legal system, or so it seems, is being kept alive by the hijinks of Mr. Salman Khan. Every time you turn around he is being sued by someone or handled some sort of legal writ. The 2002 hit and run trial is still dragging its way through the courts. On top of that, Khan's new movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been hit with a legal notice by a social activist.
Hindus have taken exception to the film's title, as well as scenes in the film. Says One India:
"According to a report in the Hindi daily, a social activist from Chitrakoot, UP has sent a legal notice to Jaishree production company, film actor Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan. The activist named Anil Singh Pradhan has demanded that the title and obnoxious scenes of the film must be changed. The notice says that Bajrangi stands for Hindu god and it can't be linked with Bhaijan. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is wrong title and is hurting Hindus' sentiments."
The fact that the film is being released during EID has only infuriated Hindus even more.
But, if that was the only thing Khan had to worry about, it would be a slow week. The trial that will never end has been adjourned until the 13th of July, when it will probably be adjourned again. One India laid out how we got here:
"When the case came up for hearing, Justice AR Joshi was then informed by Salman's lawyer Amit Desai that the 'paper book' (compilation of evidence and documents which is served to both the sides by the court) was not complete. The judge then ordered that this task should be expeditiously completed and deferred the matter till July 1. On behalf of the Maharashtra government, Chief Public Prosecutor SS Shinde appeared and consented to the date fixed for the next hearing. Salman did not come to the court."
Thus, the case that won't end continues on and on and on.
