India recently completed its version of the Oscar's. The International Indian Film Academy is a three-day-long affair, unlike the Oscars, that does its best to compete with Hollywood on the glamor scale. It is convened to celebrate everything in Indian cinema and unabashedly pat itself on the back. This year, it took place in Kuala Lumpur and, of course, drew the who's-who of Bollywood.
This year was a changing of the guard so to speak. The youth of Bollywood has been making its presence known and seem to have stepped up and said, "It's our time."
"With Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor hosting the event, IIFA this year is focusing on younger generations. Even leading nominations for the awards were bagged by either young directors or actors be it's Alia (Bhatt) for 2 States or Vikas Bahl for Queen," Spokesman of the IIFA Andre Timmins said.
Notable winners include Kangana Ranaut for Best Lead Actress for Queen, Shahid Kapoor for Best Lead Actor for Haider. Queen also won best picture and Rajkumar Hirani won best director for PK.
