Deepika Padukone Rubs Her Movie 'Piku' Success in Ex-Boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor's Face?

Deepika Padukone threw a party. It was an impromptu affair and you'll pardon her if she wasn't a wee bit giddy because of the success of her film Piku. She even was crazy enough to invite her ex Ranbir Kapoor and his current gf Katrina Kaif. Problem was, not only was the whole thing unplanned, but Ranbir was still smarting from the disaster that was Bombay Velvet.

The party and the invite looked for all the world like a good swift kick in Ranbir's groin courtesy of Deepika. For her part, Deepika has said that the party was a spur of the moment thing and there was no intention to hurt Ranbir. Sure, they have a whole long history, but both have moved on and have significant others. So, why stir up trouble?

When questioned, Deepika played innocent saying, "I also invited Ranbir and Katrina (Kaif) but I can understand them not wanting to party since I've gone through similar phases in my career."

Ranbir is still smarting from the disaster that was Bombay Velvet. The expected money maker was savaged by critics and never got off the ground. It bombed, big time.

"I will never do anything to hurt Ranbir. He'd talk to me about Bombay Velvet during Tamasha, admitted it was a difficult character even for a brilliant actor like him. I've yet to see the film but it belonged to friends of mine and I empathise with their pain, I think the negativity surrounding it is unfair," Deepika told Mumbai Mirror.

Whatever the case, fortunes can change quicker than the next movie premiere. Not to mention, Ranbir and Katrina can obscure Deepika's place on the news sheet if they were to get married.

Was Deepika's invitation malicious? Should Ranbir and Katrina have swallowed their pride and went? Would it have stolen Deepika's thunder if they had?
