As a freshman for the University of Notre Dame, Everett Golson led the team to an undefeated season in 2012 and a spot in the National Championship game. After losing the National Championship game to the University of Alabama, Golson ran into academic problems at school and was dismissed from the team for a year. He returned the following season, and towards the end of the year, he became the backup quarterback. With one year of eligibility left and having already graduated, he has decided he will transfer to Florida State University.
Golson has his ups and downs while at Notre Dame with the ups including a stretch of 18 regular season wins in a row, and the downs having him lose his spot as starting quarterback. The Orlando Sentinel tells of Golson learning from those mistakes while at Notre Dame:
"I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame Community."
Golson is potentially taking over the starting quarterback spot vacated by the former Heisman Trophy Winner and new Tampa Bay Buccaneers #1 draft choice Jameis Winston. Bleacher Report agrees that the tweet from Max Olson sums up the why Golson chose FSU:
"Florida State's recent history of sending quarterbacks to the NFL-Winston, EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder-likely also helped entice Golson to go to Tallahassee."
The Florida State team is looking to rebound after failing to make it to the National Championship game and with losing many players to this past year's draft. Golson looks to be the man to bring them back, if he is able to stabilize his turnovers and develop in the area of pro-style offense that the Seminoles run.
Do you think Golson will be able to succeed at FSU? Will Florida State make it back to the National Championship game? Tell us your thoughts below.
