There is no doubt that Jameis Winston's reputation has been tarnished over the last several months. He has been involved in multiple scandals and has even been accused of date rape. So, how much has this drop in popularity affected his chances in the NFL? Reports from late last year claimed that the difference will be significant, and they even went as far to call him a "fraud." In recent news, Winston's father has revealed that, regardless of the speculations, his son has decided to enter the NFL Draft.
Winston's claim to fame started in his freshman year when he became the youngest freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. That same year, he helped lead Florida State to the 2014 National BCS Championship.
Those accomplishments are highly respectable, and not many athletes ever reach such a prestigious level. More impressively, it looked like Winston and the Seminoles were headed to yet another flawless season, until the Oregon Ducks took them down in the playoffs.
All in all, Winston has impressed fans everywhere with his skill on the field.
Yet, his actions off the field show a different individual who isn't concerned with success at all. Instead, Winston is constantly involved with the police and has even been accused of rape.
According to NFL.com, a report from last year explained why Winston is not ready for the pros:
"An NFL scout told NFL Media's Albert Breer that the Seminoles [star] is a fraud, and left no doubt about whether Winston's issues at FSU have damaged his future stock for the NFL draft."
The scout ended by saying, "It'll hurt him significantly...Especially with all the stuff going on in the league. This may force him to stay another year to clean up his image. He's a fraud. You can't believe anything he says, because he keeps doing the same things over and over."
Even with that said, Winston is entering the Draft anyway. According to TMZ Sports, Jameis' father went public about the 21-year-old's decision:
"Jameis Winston is leaving FSU and entering the NFL Draft...so says his dad...Winston's father [said] the 21-year-old has made up his mind -- especially since his son is projected to be a 1st round pick...which means $$$...As we previously reported, Jameis' off-the-field activity at FSU has been scaring away big-time sports agents...[and] he seems like too much a headache to sign...But as one industry insider put it..Someone will sign him because there's money to be made...plain and simple."
