Jon 'Bones' Jones Suspended, Stripped of UFC Title With Hit and Run

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon 'Bones' Jones was suspended and historically stripped of his title following his arrest for a hit and run. With Jones not able to defend his title once more, the belt is on the line for UFC 187 between the top two contenders.

The president of UFC, Dana White, knew how hard of a decision it was to make such a historic move as stripping the title of a champion for an incident outside of the octagon. ESPN reported on White's take on Jones' feelings towards the suspension and title strip from an episode of Fox Sports Live:

"He's very disappointed. He's upset. He wanted to go down as one of the greats or the greatest. He's disappointed, but it is what it is. It is the decision we had to make. For us to go in and have to strip him of his title and suspend him is not fun, but you know what they say: The show must go on."

And go on without Jones is exactly what the show is going to do. The new contenders for the Light Heavyweight Championship are Daniel Cormier and John Makdessi.

With White showing little emotion towards Jones, other fighters have stepped up and shown support for the fallen former champion. MMAFighting.com has Connor McGregor's spot on take of the whole Jones situation:

"I can't understand it. Like, get a driver. Get driven. If I go out now, I'm driven in a limo. You know what I mean? You've got money. I don't know. It's just a weird situation. But I wish him well. I hope he gets his head together and comes back. He's a great man, he's a great champion."

Do you think McGregor has a good idea for Jones in hiring a driver? Who do you think will emerge as the new Light Heavyweight Champion of UFC? Tell us your thoughts below.
