‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Patrick Dempsey News; Katherine Heigl Talks Return?

After Patrick Dempsey was suddenly murdered in Season 11 of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, rabid fans and supermarket tabloids have been working through their frustrations by insisting that Shonda Rhimes fired McDreamy after more than a decade due to his bad attitude and/or sexual impropriety -- perhaps even at the behest of an offended Ellen Pompeo -- but that may not exactly be the case after all. According to the latest gossip news updates, Derek Shepherd may be dead but Dempsey is still getting along swimmingly with his TV show wife. The Loverboy actor turned racecar driver has also gone out of his way to let people know that he has nothing but respect and admiration for showrunner Shonda. And luckily for Season 12, series original, Katherine Heigl, has already expressed interest in returning to the TV show.

Just last week it was being reported by Life & Style that the whole time that Grey's Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes was being criticized for firing fan favorite Patrick Dempsey from the series after 11-long-years on the cast, it was really Ellen Pompeo who was behind his sudden termination:

"Patrick's relationship with Ellen went south...[and] producers couldn't have him causing problems on the set."

When Patrick spoke of the onscreen love of his life to Entertain Weekly about after leaving the show, however, he had nothing but warm and endearing things to say about her and all the time they were lucky enough to spend together:

"It's magic. It's beautiful. We're like a married couple.

"It's been 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. [Great] chemistry right away."

Despite Dempsey's insistence that he left under the best of circumstance given his character's time on the show had naturally run its course, Grey's fans have been letting Shonda know through social media that they think the new story line stinks.

Apparently having finally had enough of the non-stop second guessing on Twitter, Shonda Rhimes went ahead and let the Twittispere know point blank that she has no time or attention to waste on their silly comments:

While McDreamy may be as dead a doornail, Katherine Heigl's character is still very much alive and presumably cancer free living somewhere in the Grey's Anatomy universe.

In an interview with TVLine before she started filming her current show, State of Affairs, the Knocked Up actress revealed that she would still be willing to return for an episode or two if Shonda Rhimes could ever find it in her heart to invite her back:

"If they want me to return for an arc, I would love to know where Izzie is now.

"It's been a couple of years...I really hope she's succeeding somewhere."

And suddenly Patrick Dempsey return from the dead seems ever slightly more plausible.
