Paul Pierce Retirement: 'Truth' Ending Career After Season?

The former Boston Celtic and current Washington Wizard Hall of Famer-to-be Paul Pierce has made a number of clutch shots throughout his career. What could be his final shot in the NBA would have been added to that list, if not for being just a tick of the clock too late, sealing a loss in these playoffs to the number one seeded Atlanta Hawks. After spending 17 years sacrificing his body to the NBA, The Truth doesn't know truly if he has one last season-long run in him. Rumors are flying that Pierce might go ahead with retirement, instead of opting to play with the Wizards.

Pierce made his way to Washington after a short stop with the Brooklyn Nets, following his storied career as a Celtic. The NBA champion learned while being at the University of Kansas how to be a winner at the NBA level, and has given his all since the day he stepped on a court. Basketball is life for Pierce. The Huffington Post has a distraught Pierce's thoughts concerning his future after the season ending loss:

"It's probably going to be the hardest thing I ever have to do is put the game down, but I know that time is coming one day and [I'm] not sure if it's this year or next year."

The drained Pierce elaborated to the Washington Post about why it might be time to hang it up and how that could have been his last game:

"Truthfully, what was going through my mind is, I don't have too much of these efforts left, if any. These rides throughout the NBA season, throughout the playoffs, are very emotional. They take a lot out of not only your body, but your mind, your spirit."

All of this was said and felt by Pierce postgame, without having the clarity of the offseason to fully make his decision. Hopefully, the fierce competitor known as The Truth will figure out if this is how he wants his NBA legacy to end.
