While the new producers of ABC's long running talk show, The View, seemed to bill Rosie O'Donnell's return to the TV series as a real coup, original creator, Barbara Walters insists that she always thought the choice to bring back the League of the Own star was a controversial one at best. According to the latest gossip news updates, the former showrunner beleived all along that Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie never really meshed the first time around, so her return always seemed a bit dubious from Walter's perspective. O'Donnell apparently had a difficult time getting along with soon-to-be ex-wife, Michelle Rounds as well. Thankfully, her ex's rumored new girlfriend, Carmen Ortega, is still claiming that she and Rounds as just friends.
Barbara Walter's name might still appear somewhere in the credits of ABC's The View, but the legendary journalist recently revealed that she is not near as involved as she would like to be in the decision making process.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 85-year-old TV producer also claimed that she never really fully understood the reasoning behind bringing back Rosie O'Donnell to the cast when comedienne never really gelled with the panel before leaving back in 2007 in the first place (via E! News):
"I think Rosie and Whoopi together was not peaches and cream.
"And I don't think we needed the two of them together.
"It was not a combination that I would have thought was a natural."
Speaking of volatile combinations, Michelle Rounds attempts to seemingly hurt Rosie by making a point of being seen publicly with Carmen Ortega on her arm seems to have backfired as the frightened actress is doing her best to distance herself from any sort of formal romantic relationship Rosie's wife as quickly as possible.
During impromptu chat with TMZ, Ortega made a point of letting everyone know that she and Michelle are in no way, shape or form and item:
"Michelle and I are just good friends.
"People love to speculate...but we are just beautiful people that like to hang out."
Doing her best to make sure that the attention coming her way remains positive, Carmen flat out refused to comment on Rounds contentious split with Rosie -- claiming that she didn't want to get caught up in something that was already begoming so negative:
"It's not my business...I stay out of that.
"It's too messy; I don't like to get in the mess.
"I stay, like, clean."
Maybe The View's producers will think of casting both Rosie O and Michelle Rounds on next season's panel.
