K-Pop group EXO have made history, at least where the internet is concerned. Their drama series EXO Next Door, created in collaboration with SM Entertainment and Naver Line TV, has hit 10 million views for the first time in NaverTV Cast's history, proving the band's popularity around the world.
This milestone is welcome news for a band that is in need of some favorable publicity. Recent departures from the group, most notably Tao (though still not officially confirmed), have left the group a little thin in the good news department.
The 16-episode series, which airs every Tuesday and Thursday on NaverTV Cast, debuted April 9 and has aired 12 of the 16 episodes. What is all the more impressive when one steps back for a second, is that the band has achieved that number with 4 episodes yet to air.
Of recent, the series has helped to comfort fans in light of the Tao departure rumors dominating the internet. To recap, Tao was injured on January 2, while filming the TV variety show Idol Star Athletics Championship. He experienced a slow recovery period and was unable (or, as SM Entertainment has hinted, unwilling) to participate in the promotional activities for the latest release from the band, "Call Me Baby." On April 22, My Daily published a statement from SM Entertainment where the agency did indeed confirm that it was in negotiations with Tao's father for his son's departure. The father for his part has alleged that his son has been treated poorly by the label and not given proper treatment during his convalesces.
EXO, for their part. Have continued to soldier on and entertain as best they know how. This victory has to be pretty sweet for them right now. The band has shoulder a lot these past weeks and have come through it still intact..
