Tonight, NBC’s Chicago Fire spin-off, Chicago PD is all new with the second to last episode of the second season. Recently, showrunner, Matt Olmstead opened up about how Jason Beghe got cast as Det. Voight. Check out the report below to see what is store for Voight in tonight’s penultimate episode.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Chicago PD, titled “Push the Pain Away,” reads:
“A mass shooting at an athletic club is investigated; and Atwater, who's dealing with his new assignment, helps locate the suspected shooters. Platt and Halstead, meanwhile, check in with Lindsay to see how she's managing.”
Recently, showrunner Matt Olmstead recalled how it was producer Dick Wolf who insisted on Jason Beghe being cast as Voight, telling The Hollywood Reporter:
“We were doing some reshoots for the pilot of Chicago Fire. We were casting this role of a dirty cop, the Voight character, and at that point it was just going to be a three-episode arc for that character. I pitched it to Dick and he said, ‘Jason Beghe.’ … He's in his director's chair. I think on one phone he was either buying or selling a piece of art and on the other phone he was dealing with casting in terms of who the Voight character was going to be. I've known him to be super-even-tempered and never lose it, but there were some impediments to Jason Beghe being approved for Voight, and I saw the temper come out in defense of what he felt was the right choice. As it turned out, he was vindicated, certainly, because Jason Beghe went on to be the lead of his own show [Chicago P.D.].”
Be sure to check out the all new episode of Chicago PD, tonight at 10:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
