Ray Rice was welcomed back to Rutgers University for their Spring Football game by Head Coach Kyle Flood to address the current players with his advice. This follows Rice's scandal involving the beating of his then-fiancee and now wife, Janay Palmer, in an elevator attack and getting released as running back of the Baltimore Ravens.
The decision by Flood to allow the troubled free agent back to the program seemed odd to some, but the head coach acknowledged that bringing Rice back to the university would allow for a valuable learning experience for his current student athletes.
The Asbury Park Press states that
'''I reached out to Ray,' Flood said. 'I thought that we had an opportunity for Ray to give a very important message to our football players and he did that today.' What was the message? The message was very simple. That you can do a lot of great things in your life. You can do charitable works at home and in the cities you're working in, but if you make the wrong decision you're going to have to be accountable for that. And Ray made a wrong decision and he has held himself accountable to it, and he has paid the price for it and I thought today was an opporunity for him to deleiver a message to try to prevent one of our young people from doing that in the future.''
The former Raven and currently unemployed running back told them just that.
According to NBC Sports Pro Football Talk, Rice spoke candidly
"I just shot them straight. I'm sure if you speak to them, they'll give you a lot better explanation of what I told them, but I gave them the message to go out there and not make the mistakes that I made," Rice told Politi. "If I can help them understand, then I've made an impact. It costs no money to give them a good message like that."
Do you believe the decision of Coach Flood to allow Rice back to advise his current players after his troubled past? Did you feel the words coming from Rice's mouth to be believable and sincere? Tell us what you think.
