Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts admitted on Friday that the police should have gotten Freddie Gray, the young man who died while in police custody after suffering a broken spine, medical treatment sooner. However, the events leading up to Freddie Gray’s death, are still a mystery. Neither the van that Gray was transported in or the any of the six officers involved his arrest were equipped with camera. Now Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has promised that Baltimore cops will be equipped with body cameras by the end of the year.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is promising the people that Baltimore police will be equipped with body cameras by the end of 2015, writing on Facebook:
“There has been some discussion about the role body cameras could have played in preventing this recent tragedy. I want to be clear that I have always been a firm supporter of body cameras for police, and Baltimore will have them before the end of the year. However, before moving forward it was important to first develop an actual policy, which we have done.”
This news comes while officials are still hunting for any possible footage of Freddie Gray’s arrest.
