Tonight, the hit A&E Psycho prequel Bates Motel is all new. It has been rumored that Freddie Highmore, who plays a teenaged Norman Bates on the series, was in the running for the role of Spider-Man in the new Sony/Disney reboot and Avengers crossover. Now it has been revealed that Peter Parker will be a teenager in the new series. Does this mean that the 23-year-old actor is too old for the part?
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Bates Motel, titled “Norma Louise,” reads:
“Norma considers a life outside of White Pine Bay, leaving Norman in a vulnerable position. As Dylan and Emma bond over helping their friend through a rough night, Caleb makes a difficult decision and Romero is confronted by a new threat.”
Recently Marvel’s own Kevin Feige opened up to about Spider-Man’s age in the MCU, stating (via Collider):
“In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually to cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right...We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet.
“Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”
