Jon Stewart Retiring: Last Show Date Withheld, More 'Daily' Cast Members Quit [UPDATE]

Jon Stewart has officially confirmed that he will be retiring from his hit late night program, The Daily Show. Although the date of his last show remains unknown, one thing is certain -- more cast members are quitting the award-winning show.

For nearly two decades now, Jon Stewart has been the host of the wildly popular Comedy Central news program, The Daily Show. Soon, however, that will no longer be the case.

The Peabody Award-winning broadcaster has decided to move on to bigger (and hopefully) better things.

Stewart has yet to reveal the date of his last show, or, for that matter, who his replacement might be. That has many wondering if the show will even continue following Jon's exit from the series.

Perhaps that's why cast members have been jumping ship left and right. USA Today tells readers that Samantha Bee is the latest cast member to bid farewell to the iconic news program:

"Thursday, long-time Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee became the latest in a string of comedians to leave the show... So everyone is jumping the Daily Show ship now that the godfather himself, Jon Stewart, announced he's leaving...Samantha Bee got a gig at TBS. Will the Daily Show even continue?"

Departing cast members aren't the only issues The Daily Show is facing.

According to a number of reports, Stewart is having difficulty finding a replacement. The logical replacement, thought by many, would have been seasoned correspondent John Oliver.

After all, Oliver successfully hosted the program while Jon was away directing his first film, and viewers (and sponsors) loved his take on "the fake news."

Ultimately though, that hosting gig landed Oliver his own show on HBO. Therefore, his return would not be likely, even if it meant hosting the show he called home for so many years.

Now, Mediaite is reporting that many fans would like to see Jon replaced by a woman or minority, however, that might be unlikely:

"As media watchers fiercely advocate for a woman or minority to replace Stewart as America's most-trusted political comedian, two names that have been thrown around are Amy Schumer and Chris Rock. But if people like Jason Jones and Samantha Bee don't want to replace Stewart, it's hard to imagine these much bigger stars will be jumping at the chance."

What do you think about the latest reports? Who would you like to see replace Jon? Can anyone live up to the success and hype?
