Chicago's Derrick Rose Post Knee Surgery Return: Bull's Teammates Shine During All-Star's Absence

Since the days of Michael Jordan, The Chicago Bulls' presence in the NBA has been undeniable. Now, though, the end of the regular season is quickly approaching, and Chicago's star point guard Derrick Rose is still out after a "minor" knee surgery. In a recent interview, the Bulls' general manager discussed the medical procedure in depth and assured fans that Derrick would be returning to play within four to six weeks. Truly, Chicago fans are glad to hear such good news, but, at the same time, things haven't been going poorly in his absence.

Before his time as a professional, Derrick played college ball for the University of Memphis. During his time there, his impressive skills earned him a first overall selection by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft.

It did not take long for the future star to make a name for himself.

Impressively, Rose was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Since then, he has continued to win awards and turn heads. Most notably, he was recognized as 2011's NBA MVP.

His involvement in the Bull's overall success is gargantuan. For sometime now, though, they have had to press on without their star player.

According to a report by Yahoo Sports, his surgery went well and Rose is expected to return this season:

"Derrick Rose had successful surgery to remove the damaged portion of the torn medial meniscus in his right knee, Chicago Bulls' general manager Gar Forman told reporters...Forman termed the surgery 'minor'...Rose reportedly walked out of the hospital bearing his full weight on his own following the outpatient meniscectomy...and estimated the star point guard's recovery timeline at four to six weeks...the short side of [that] timeframe would peg Rose's estimated return at March 27. At that point, the Bulls will have nine games remaining on their regular-season schedule."

People in the windy city have their fingers crossed that Rose's return will happen sooner rather than later. However, according to ESPN, the Bull's have been holding it together regardless of Rose's absence:

"Derrick Rose had knee surgery...Pau Gasol was sidelined by an illness, and Taj Gibson sprained his...ankle in the first quarter...No problem for the Chicago Bulls, who turned to their emerging star and skilled center for a short-handed victory...Jimmy Butler had 28 points and 12 rebounds in Chicago's 96-89 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves...and Joakim Noah finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in a solid all-around performance."

For some, it is inspiring to see a team prevail in the face of adversity. However, your opinions of the Bulls may differ. If so, let us know in the comment sections below.
