New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony Sidelined After Knee Surgery and Impressive Career Stats

Carmelo Anthony is one of the NBA's most notable athletes. He has single handedly revolutionized New York Knicks basketball. Over his career, he has stacked an impressive list of achievements. Last year was no exception. His overall stats led to his 7th All-Star appearance. In turn, Knicks fans are in a tough spot after Anthony recently underwent season-ending knee surgery.

Before his time as a professional, Anthony played college ball for the University of Syracuse. During that time, he set several school records. He had a 33-point breakout against the University of Texas that is a NCCA tournament record for Most Points Scored by a Freshman.

His outstanding college career earned hip a 3rd overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draft. Now, he serves as a vital member of the New York Knicks.

In turn, a report by ESPN stating he would be out for several months, has left fans uneasy:

"Carmelo Anthony underwent season-ending surgery on his left knee Thursday, and Knicks president Phil Jackson said the New York star could miss four to six months. The team said on Wednesday that Anthony's procedure 'includes a left knee patella tendon debridement and repair.' Jackson said he did not want to go into detail about what type of surgery Anthony is undergoing but that he likely will be sidelined several months before returning to the court."

After the news arose concerning his absence, it seemed necessary to take a look back on some of his greatest achievements. A profile by the NBA, outlines these impressive feats:

"[Anthony's 2013-14 season marked the] seventh career NBA All-Star berth with yet another season of headline performances befitting status as one of the game's elite players...Finished second in the NBA in scoring (27.4) while leading the League in minutes (38.7)...Over 77 games (all starts), Carmelo averaged 27.4 ppg (second in NBA), career-high 8.1 rpg, 3.1 apg and shot .452 (743-1,643) over League-leading 38.7 mpg in his 11th NBA season...Went 167-415 (.402) from Downtown..."
