Baron Davis was a star player in both high school and college. He earned himself a spot as a professional, and he more than proved himself during that time. However, he is now a free agent on the market. In recent news, Davis has expressed his interest in mounting a comeback to get back in the league. However, some have suggested that -- after his multiple injuries and prolonged absence from NBA -- he would be better suited as an assistant coach.
Before his time as a professional, Davis played college ball for UCLA. He even earned the prestigious title of All-American. He was so good that he was eligible for the pros in his sophomore year.
Predictably, the Charlotte Hornets brought him up with the 5th overall pick during the 1999 NBA Draft. Throughout his career, he spent time with the New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, the Cleveland Cavaliers and, of course, the New York Knicks.
However, it all came to an end after he suffered multiple injuries. According to TMZ Sports, Davis is considering mounting a comeback:
"Baron Davis is in talks to return to the NBA [it has been said that] the 35-year-old has been in communication with multiple 'playoff contenders.' Davis...a 2-time NBA All-Star...hasn't played in the league since 2012...but we're told he's been keeping himself in shape and is serious about a return to the pros. Our sources say Davis...the #3 overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft...has been speaking with several squads who feel he could be a good backup for a young point guard. "
Many fans would be glad to see the return of Davis; especially if brings some of his legendary skill. Yet, as was reported on by Rotoworld, he might serve the league better as an assistant coach:
"Baron Davis is still attempting to make a comeback in the NBA, and said that he'd love to return to the Cavaliers. Dave is highly entreating personality and it would be great to see him latch on with a team, but its not going to happen. The 35-year-old said that he's still not 100 percent after tearing his ACL and MCL two years ago, and we're more likely to see him return as an assistant coach than a player.
