11 Students Hospitalized After Molly MDMA Overdose At Wesleyan University Party in Middletown, Conn: 2 In Critical Condition According to Reports [UPDATE]

Parents of young children might think that Molly is the name of the lead character on Nickelodeon's Bubble Guppies, but parents with older children know Molly as the party drug made from MDMA. Over the weekend 11 students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut have been hospitalized from Molly overdoses according to reports.

According to reports, the overdose happened at a co-ed Eclectic Society House on Saturday night. At leasts 11 students were taken ill after using the party drug, and two are reportedly in critical condition.

One student, Lisa Shepard, spoke with CBS affilite WFSB.com

"I just don't really know how to feel right now. It's just very shocking."

Another student, Olayinka Lawal, went on to tell the affiliate:

"I hope this serves as an example in a way for other students to be more cautious and careful,” said a student. “It can happen to anyone."

Molly is a crystalline powder form of MDMA, also known as ecstasy. Abuse of the drug was responsible for two overdose deaths back in 2013, during the Electric Zoo music festival in New York City. At that time addiction specialist Dr. Damon Raskin spoke to CBS, stating:

"Kids will often think of this as a very benign drug, and that is scary. They will often mix ecstasy with other drugs, especially at parties, like alcohol and marijuana. I think that the combination of these drugs makes them all the more toxic."
