It was a big night for Graham Moore. The writer of The Imitation Game, starring Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, just won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. During his acceptance speech Graham made some weirdly touching comments about suicide prevention, admitting that he tried to kill himself when he was 16. During his acceptance speech for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game, writer Graham Moore sent a moving message to those young kids struggling with suicidal thoughts, stating (via The Huffington Post):
"I tried to commit suicide at 16 and now I'm standing here. I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she doesn’t fit in anywhere. You do. Stay weird. Stay different, and then when it's your turn and you are standing on this stage please pass the same message along."
