On The Office Ellie Kemper played Erin the lovable receptionist, that stole our hearts towards the latter half of the series. Now Kemper is returning to TV, sort of, in the all new Netflix series, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The new comedy, originally slated for NBC, is written by 30 Rock superteam, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Kemper plays the lead role of Kimmy Schmidt, who has survived a secluded apocalypse cult, and his now making her way in New York City. Now Kemper is opening up about new series, and comparing Erin and Kimmy, ahead of the new show’s March 6 premiere date.
Ellie Kemper recently spoke to Bustle, where she compared her beloved Office character with her new Netflix role:
“They can both come off as ditzy. I would say Kimmy has a resilience and tenacity that maybe Erin didn’t quite have to the same extent, because of the circumstances she was forced to go through… I don’t think you come out of that, where you aren’t able to survive something like that, unless you have a fierceness and a very strong core.”
Kemper went on to add that both of her characters are inherently good people:
“I think that they share an optimism and a sense that the world is good. Which is a nice way to look at things.”
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premieres on March 6 on Netflix. Check out the trailer for the new show below.
