Miami Dolphin's Hero Rob Konrad's Boat Suffered Serious Damage After Near Death Swim and Jeff Ireland Controversy

The Miami Dolphins, a.k.a. one of the worst teams in the NFL, only make headlines when a controversy or event occurs off the field. For instance, Rob Konrad gained national attention after a near-death situation when he impressively swam 9 miles over a 16-hour time span after he fell off his boat in the ocean. In recent news, a report claimed that the boat in question suffered around $70K in damages. On a side note, Konrad also gained attention after he stood up for Dolphins' former GM, Jeff Ireland, in the prostitution/lewd comment scandal.

The Dolphins' franchise was established in 1966 as a part of the American Football League. After the AFL fused with the NFL in the 70s, Miami stacked an impressive list of accomplishments. They were the first team to ever champion a perfect season, and they were the first team to attend three consecutive Super Bowls.

Although, in the last couple of decades, they have only been a shell of their former selves.

In turn, many of the team's players go unnoticed. However, Rob Konrad gained national attention after a phenomenal 9-mile swim that saved his life. Based on a report by TMZ Sports, the boat he fell off of was badly damaged in the incident:

"The ex-NFL player who fell overboard during a fishing trip and swam 9 MILES to shore finally got his boat back -- but it suffered roughly $70,000 in damages after crashing on a beach. You know the story...38-year-old Rob Konrad says he lost his footing and fell off his boat in the middle of the ocean back in January...and was forced to swim about 16 hours to shore. The boat -- which was on autopilot at the time -- eventually crashed in the Grand Bahama Island..."

Konrad also gained the reputation as guardian after he boldly protected Jeff Ireland. According to the Miami Herald, Rob felt Jeff's contribution to the Dolphins' outweighed his moment of weakness:

"Former Dolphins running back Rob Konrad sent The Miami Herald and other media outlets [an email protecting] Jeff Ireland following the incident in which the general manager admittedly asked Dez Bryant whether his mother is a prostitute...[he] then apologized publicly to Bryant for the question...[He said,] 'Jeff may be demanding and thorough, and maybe a question was asked in poor judgment, but he's one of the good guys in the NFL...'"
