Stepping away from the Supreme Court, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson ventured into a world creativity by performing on the Broadway stage in the production "& Juliet."
The musical offers a fresh perspective on the classic "Romeo & Juliet."
In her debut performance on Broadway, Jackson took on the role of Queen Mab, a character identified as "she/her" in the production materials.
The performance followed her Senate confirmation in 2022, during which she acknowledged that she couldn't clearly define what a woman is, citing her lack of expertise in biology.
At 54 years old, the Supreme Court justice took part in a sold-out production that started in 2019, stepping into a one-time, walk-on role. Two special scenes were created just for her, allowing her to fulfill an aspiration of gracing the Broadway stage.
Jackson said prior to her performance, "I just also think it's very important to remind people that justices are human beings, that we have dreams, and that we are public servants."
"I guess this moment reinforces for me that anything is possible."
In the alternate universe of "& Juliet," Juliet's fate takes a different turn from Shakespeare's classic tragedy. Instead of succumbing to despair upon finding Romeo lifeless, Juliet goes on a journey to rediscover love.
With a nonbinary friend by her side, Juliet goes on a trip to Paris, not knowing she's about to get caught up in a whirlwind of romantic adventures.
After the production ended, the team released a special video showcasing behind-the-scenes moments of Jackson rehearsing her lines and nailing her dance routines.
She even said in one part of the video, "I did it! I made it to Broadway."
