Lizzy McAlpine has secured a Broadway debut, playing the part of Nellie Collins in the Lincoln Center Theater's production of "Floyd Collins'".
Tina Landau will direct the musical, which will star Jeremy Jordan as Floyd Collins. Adam Guettel writes both the lyrics and the music.
The grand opening night of the production is scheduled for April 21, 2025, after previews begin on March 27, 2025.
Floyd Collins was an adventurous cave explorer in the 1920s who became stuck deep underground and on the verge of isolation. His experience is vividly portrayed in the play. Many journalists and bystanders flocked to the site, eagerly awaiting his destiny, as the following rescue attempt devolved into a spectacle that paved the way for contemporary media frenzy.
In 1994, "Floyd Collins" had its world premiere at the American Music Theater Festival in Philadelphia. After that, the show won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding show at Playwrights Horizons in 1996, shining in the Off-Broadway spotlight.
The singer's most recent album, "Older," released by RCA Records earlier this year, precedes the news of McAlpine's Broadway debut. After the original release, the album was reissued in a deluxe edition called "Older (and Wiser)." The original album and five additional tracks are included in this special version.
