Ariana Grande's Take on Glinda in 'Wicked' Stirs Debate Over Her Vocal Style: 'Real Broadway Actresses Don't Sing Like This'

In light of the upcoming release of "Wicked", fans are expressing mixed feelings about Ariana Grande's vocal performance in the movie where she portraying the character of Glinda.

Upon analyzing previews and multiple snippets online, social media users have shared their thoughts on the singing abilities of the "Thank U Next" singer, with concerns arising about whether they meet the high standards of Broadway performances.

The discussions come after Grande has shared insights into the rigorous audition experience she underwent.

She revealed that she first auditioned for the film over three years ago.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show," "I started to kind of mentally prepare myself and my team. I just told them, you know, if this is really happening, and if they are going to start seeing people for it, I just want to be so prepared."

Grande added, "I want to take all of the acting, all of the singing lessons, I want to train my voice to become coloratura soprano, like .. like legit opera. I have to honor this the way that it requires,' she said to applause from the studio audience."

The "We Can't Be Friends" hitmaker expressed gratitude for not being handed the role solely because of her musical background, adding, "Thank God. I mean, it's 'Wicked,' it has to be earned."

Speaking of the preparations, Grande revealed, "I tried to prepare myself mentally going into it, knowing that -- listen, this is going to end up where it's meant to end up."

"And as a fan of it, I have to trust that and know that it's going to go where it's supposed to go. But in the meantime, I'm gonna do every damn thing I can to prepare myself for this and to get the chance. And I auditioned August 13, 2021, that was my first audition."

"And then I got called back, and then I got called back again. And then I did screen tests with two different actresses, and it was like a 3 1/2 hour session that day."
