Plans for Destiny's Child to come together for a performance at Vice President Kamala Harris' event in Houston, Texas, were unexpectedly derailed due to a mishap on Broadway.
Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams had hoped to reunite on stage at Shell Energy Stadium to show their support for VP Harris in her presidential campaign.
Returning to their native town, Beyoncé and Rowland discovered that Williams could not join them due to a sudden illness befalling her theater colleague.
Williams' absence is due to her involvement in the previews of the Broadway production "Death Becomes Her," based on the 1992 cult classic that starred Isabella Rossellini, Meryl Streep, and Goldie Hawn.
Williams' co-star Megan Hilty had to withdraw from a show, forcing both leading ladies not to be absent simultaneously.
According to a source who spoke to Page Six, "So Michelle had to miss the rally."
A synopsis of the Broadway production reads, "Madeline Ashton is the most beautiful actress (just ask her) ever to grace the stage and screen."
Its logline continues, "Helen Sharp is the long-suffering author (just ask her) who lives in her shadow."
"They have always been the best of frenemies...until Madeline steals Helen's fiancé away. As Helen plots revenge and Madeline clings to her rapidly fading star, their world is suddenly turned upside down by Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that's to die for."
"After one sip of Viola's magical potion, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their youth and beauty restored...and a grudge to last eternity."
Williams garnered acclaim during the show's successful "Chicago" production, leading producers to have high hopes for her ability to draw in audiences for "Death Becomes Her."
"They're particularly strict about allowing her a night off to do other things," the source told Page Six.
In the latest installment of "Sherri" on Tuesday, Oct. 29, Williams said of Beyoncé and Rowland being at the Harris' rally in Houston, "I was so happy, but at the same time, it was the first time that I have not been able to be in person for something that I, you know, wanted to be at."
"And that is a sacrifice we make [with] Broadway. I couldn't be there, but they represented and held me down in their own way."
